BEKO larder fridge not, well, 'fridgeing' :-)

As title, approx 6-7-year-old BEKO TDLA621W larder fridge (no freezer compartment) not getting cold enough, even with the 'stat at max (runs approx 10-11 degrees at present), compressor running, outlet pipe from compressor very hot but by the time it gets to the tops of the condenser tubes it feels tepid/lukewarm. Local repair man can re-gas for £75 but no guarantee this will fix fault, has to charge this to cover gas cost.
Has anyone any suggestions/experience of similar please?

a few years ago we did the re gassing thing on a similar age fridge freezer. It went again pretty quickly and we were advised by a couple of repair people to buy a new fridge as the better option.

How much air can circulate around the radiator, and is there any grease build-up on the radiator?

The gas recharge isn't guaranteed to work. So I'm with shouldbeinbed on getting a replacement fridge instead.

+1 on buy a new one. 6 or 7 years is not bad for a fridge nowadays. They are no longer built to last.
I watched episode 1 of The Men Who Made Us Spend - currently available here on iPlayer. The presenter was talking about how manufacturers deliberately make their products less durable so you have to go out and buy more often. For example, a cartel of light bulb manufacturers was formed in the mid-1900s and they all agreed to lower the average life of bulbs from 2,500 hours to 1,000 hours!

I definitely wouldn't put any more money into the Beko. I'd look on ebay for a good make, near me. This £375 (@john lewis) Miele, for example, is close to you, and you could buy it tomorrow, 18 months old and in perfect nick, for the price of your Beko re-gas. And that's just a for example. Get a Miele, a Bosch, a Siemens, or something on those lines, and you'll certainly get a lot more than 7 years out of it. Before we got our fitted kitchen we had a Bosch I got off ebay for £65, used for 7 or 8 faultless years, then sold on ebay for £53.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I had to have a fridge re gassed after it was moved from one house to another. Carried on working for years., in fact my daughter had it after me, and it still carried on working. In the end she only got rid of it because she wanted a new fridge freezer.

Still using a 31 yr old Hitachi fridge/freezer and its as good today as when it was new, frost free too.
I never knew Hitachi made fridges and have never seen another (Maz owned it before we got together 20yrs ago, it was old then) but it has no cracks in the plastic and the seals are still perfect plus using my greenhouse digital thermometer it runs at 2c and -23c.

Not sure if this is relevant, But my fridge kept freezing the salad etc,no matter what temp we adjusted it to.
The problem was the door rubber on the top & bottom corners wasn't making contact and sealing, the compressor must of been running constantly or something. It was quite old though.
New fridge cured the problem lol

Don't get a Zanussi/Electrolux!
I bought one from Comet, not long before Comet went under. It was/is one of those self defrosting jobs. Except that it didn't self defrost and was repaired under warranty when less than a year old.
Comet then went bust, and sure enough within a few months the thing stopped working again. Ice was building up around the circulation fan causing the problems when the fan could not run.
I contacted Zanussi who were not interested as I had bought it from Comet and my warranty contract was with them, apparently.
I still have the POS but have to defrost it manually every 6 months. Next one will be a Bosch.

TDLA621W from memory (I'm at work).

I'm thinking that replacement will be the way forward, rather than the uncertain 're-gas and see what happens'. I'd love to got for a Miele/Bosch/Liebherr but, typically, we've just committed most of our 'buying stuff' saved money to a new car and, if truth be known, were both waiting for something like this to happen, as the big Monty Python foot generally desends at times like this :headshake:. Added to which Mrs Browser can be 'difficult to persuade' when it comes to purchases like this, preferring the cheaper option to pushing the boat out for a quality product
