Hi,
Could someone give me makes and models of road bikes which would be good for a beginner. I've lost 4.5 stone (I was a 16st bloke) these past few years so I want to introduce some good exercise to get down to my goal weight. I don't want a heavy lump. I might pay up to about £450. Are there any makes to steer clear of? Possibly, someone has a suggestion of a make/model from recent years available on ebay?
Thanks for your time.

Welcome and congratulations on losing 4.5 stone.Amazing that you have done that before taking up cycling, most people do it the other way round.

For that money you could get quite a decent bike brand new.

Need a bit more info to recommend a specific bike eg do you want drop handlebars or straight, will you need a bike with attatchments for carriers and mudguards or not.

dont know if you have cycled much before but its crucial to get a bike the right size so do a google search on bike size or bike fitting to check.Ideally go ionto a shop and get them to fit you and try sitting on a few.

I have a Trek hybrid bike for commuting which has proved really good, one of the Trek range of road bikes may be ideal for you depending on your priorities.

If you want a flat handle bar road bike the specialized Sirrus range are well regardsd bikes.

My road bike is a Scott Speedster which is a beautiful and light bike which I love but not equipped with attatchment points for mudguards and rack so all depends on what you want to do with it.

Hi Ethan

Welcome and congrats on the weight loss.

£450 will get you a good bike new or used.
If there's a Decathlon near you they're worth a look, lots of different types of bike for not much money.
Anything by Trek, Giant, Dawes or Specialized will serve you well and will get decent money if you sell to upgrade later on. There are many other makes but they are the ones who build in volume so tend to have higher spec components for your money.
Good luck whatever you decide.
