beginner's ride

i'm taking my 8 year old on the club's beginners' ride today. he only has a heavy single speed kid's bike, but he can go really fast and he's ridden 10 miles of bridleway no worries so i reckon he should be fine for 20 miles on the road.

i've put a mudguard on for him, and a bottle cage (we'll stop for him to drink though), so here's hoping he really enjoys it.

there's a proper bike waiting for him to grow into at christmas.

Nice one! I wish more parents were as active, beats teenage obesity. Here's hoping he enjoys it and likes the crimbo pressie. Do let us know how he gets on.

Hope he went on ok. I saw a little boy, 3.5 years old riding yesterday without stabilisers, his dad said he could do miles! I was so impressed, it's lovely when parents support their kids to cycle well at a young age.

he did indeed enjoy it, although a little tired after 18 miles. i think he'll do it again; better weather than todays patchy rain will help…
