well with yesterday being my birthday, today i went off the collect my present ;)

i decided to take the plunge and go for the Halfords essential bike tool kit for £26.99... (also got one of their grease guns and tube of grease)
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_522915_langId_-1_categoryId_210152

i figured that for the price you got quite a good selection of tools and they all pack away in a nice little box. i wasn't expecting top quality at this price but after a quick look, all the tools seem to be up to the job.
the only thing I'm not keen on is that the chain whip is combined with the headset spanners (could lead to a few paint scratches if not careful)

so for a cheap little starter tool kit for someone who wants to cut down on LBS service costs... this could be a little bargain ???

anyone else have any experience with these tools ???

I bought a similar kit nine years ago when I returned to cycling. (Best thing I ever did exept marry my second wife!)

I've replaced the Allen key set, (The orignals wore out after five or six years so I bought better quality ones.) and periodically I've added special tools for the trikes I ride. There is now practically no job I can't tackle and the money spent on tools has been saved many times over.

My next step is to learn how to build wheels!
