Went to my two local shops and im impressed with the trek 1.5, the other dealer was scott and giant. The giant have 5-6 week lead time, and the scott had only one below £700.

Any thoughts on these bikes, I can stretch to say 8 or 900 at a push, just wanted some more wisdom?

TIA

Either the trek 1.5 or the boardman comp, what would you choose?

The boardmans looked pretty good but I haven't rode one. There are vast amounts of info on trek and giant bikes on this forum.

Good choice for the money mate. I've got one and am really happy with it. For the money you can't really beat them. You can spend 1200 on a Trek 1.9 and sure you'll get full Ultegra etc and they ride better but for your first road bike is it worth spending double?

I went with the boardman comp in the end and got it for £600.

wow that was a quick decision !;) I was going to suggest checking out all the recent reviews in C+

I spend days ..weeks ...agonising over which wheels to buy ...then just as I am about to order some, Ribble put their prices up 5% as I am watching

Yes thanks guys for your input, I was itching to get a bike and visitting the LBS' made it even harder to resist. What swayed it was the random halfords I rang having it in store as when I went to a different branch they had to order them all in.

I did start researching a few weeks back, and whilst there is many many choices in this price bracket, I got a bit fed up with pottering around when I could be out cycling!

As with this site and many others on the internet, it was pretty obvious that the spec on the boardman range is very hard to beat value wise.

Of course sittingduck when I get chance I shall take a few snaps for you's!

Looks good - but isn't it just the rear mech that's 105, the rest Tiagra?
