Astonishing that cagers take 2 hrs travelling the 12 miles Portishead to Bristol each morning !

Yes, I kept wondering if she'd ever considered getting a bike. It would have been a cheaper solution than moving to Bristol.

Get a bike? But what would she do with the car? Hmmm? She'd arrive at work all sweaty and out of breath. There's nowhere to carry your stuff on a bike either, and it's dangerous.

You just don't get it do you?

I visit a factory in Portbury just around the corner, I'd expected to see a lot of bikes outside but they were few. One of the reasons stated was that there were just no decent roads to cycle along connecting the Industrial areas to where people lived. This may or may not have been a factor with the lady in question.
2 hrs for 12 miles... it's really madness though...

No decent roads?

How do they drive there then?

Just watched this on I Player. I like the presenter, really affable chap.

The girl interviewed wouldn't cycle as it isn't compatible with her young professional lifestyle no doubt.

Complete folly to reinstate the line for freight but not complete the job for the sake of 3 extra miles - rubbish short termism.

M5 mostly.
Herein lies the problem, the roads in the immediate viscinity and some miles around are all dsigned for heavy traffic and heavy truckage, a bit scary for people wanting to start cycle commuting.

Can you share a map? I can't help but think there must be some alternative... the M5 surely doesn't lead up to the front door. Even my local B&Q which pretty much has its own exit on the motorway also has a backroute?
