Incidents like this illustrate why going out into the wilds on your own or failing to leaving word when you can be expected back is fraught with danger.
Even if your sensible advice is adhered to, there's a good chance that even a comparitively minor injury may require an airlift when out on the trails and away from ambulance access. A certain fellow forumite who has a tiny newt will recall having such a rescue on the South Downs when her horse had a puncture some years back....................
