I've been stripping down the commuter bike and experienced a problem with my BB5s.

The dials on the front and rear are stuck fast - presumably because the pad itself seems to have fused itself to the caliper.
I've tried applying a bit of GT85 and wiggling with all my might, but it just won't budge.

Are they buggered?

I've also managed to shred the middle out of the rear dial trying to move it. I acknowledge that this wasn't a clever move on my part, but I felt it starting to move, committed to it, and ended up with tiny little bits of metal all over my multi tool

I'm guessing they're unsalvageable, unless anyone has any ideas. BB7 seem a good replacement unless I'm likely to get the same issue? Also I presume the prices quoted online are all just for one caliper and rotor?

Update: Manage to pry the pad away from the caliper... but the dial is still stuck fast.
Looks like there's some sort of internal corrosion.

Well the rear one yep, buggered. For the front I'd take it off , remove the pads and try a bit of plusgas or plain diesel if you have any. might free it.
If I remember correctly the pads on these as on some others are held in by magnets which might give the impression that its stuck in there.
Prices online got me a bit confused as well, not hard to do to be honest!
One seller on that auction site is selling the BB& as a pair for @ £60 whereas other places suggest it's £60 each......

Thanks rusty. I'm pretty sure I'm going to write them off. I always had half an eye on upgrading them anyway, I just don't like being forced into these decisions! I also wish I hadn't bought 4 sets of spare BB5 pads!

There are many BB7 advertised as front/rear which I presume means compatible with either the front or the rear rather than the box coming with both in... plus it seems the whole world is out of stock now too if you want one that's a reasonable price, so if I need an urgent set I have to go up to £142. Then my brain wonders if the BB7 SL are worth the extra £58? Hmmm

Those are the MTB version, the road ones have silver/grey caliper bodies. Delivery was about 10 days IIRC
