Hi,

Thinking back to when BB30 was the new kid on the block, a lot of people complained that their bb30 were creaking and groaning, even after just a few rides.

Initially, this seemed to be down to either a faulty batch of bearings, or the installers not greasing them up properly.

Now that the standard has come of age is this still an issue?

I only had a bike fitted with that style for a 3-4 months last year never had any issues with it.

I thought some of the issues were with BB30 adaptors for cranks like Shimano 105 which do not have a specific BB30 variant?

My new bike (Tarmac Sport) has BB30 with a compatible FSA crankset but I have only put 300 miles on the bike yet so too early to tell.

It isn't a sealed unit, dirt will get in, dirt causes wear and noises. Maintain it regularly and it will run buttery smooth and make no noise! I have hundreds of hours on my BB30 setups and neither creak. It is not surprising though, I clean and grease them regularly while swapping my power meter back and forth between the two bikes. I do it much more often than is needed, since I have the crankset off anyway, but it is such a simple job, it should be part of your routine maintenance schedule, just take the cranket off, clean and grease the bearings, put it back together, should take 5-10 minutes depending on how much of a rush you are in!
