You would definitely void the manufacturer warranty on a carbon Cannondale frame by pressing one back out, tbh, it would be madness to bother even installing it IMO.

Cannondale themselves told me I could press the one out of my CAAD though, they just said get a bike shop to do it, so I went to the dealer that sold me the bike.

This one looks pretty solid too. It's a Pricey though. Anyone have any experience?

The wheels manufacturing ones seem to be well reviewed also but i don't like the way they look personally and would prefer a full sleeve.

The WM ones are great - I agree about appearance, but for me the ability to remove, clean, exchange etc., outweighs the minor appearance penalty (and they're not that bad...). Have you seen a pair installed?

Not in person Herzog, just pictures. The ones i am looking at are all just as serviceable (unlike FSA press fit).

Looking at the Praxis bb30 adaptor and the Rotor bb30 to 24mm adaptor . Both look like good bits of kit and the main difference is they use their own bearings instead of using the BB30 like the wheels manufacturer ones. They also look a lot better IMO but the price of the Praxis is £55 and the Rotor £45. So not the cheapest options.

Use an extension bar from a socket set, but make sure you hit the bearing above the circlip ... I have the removal tool as well as the installation tool, so adapted the end of the extension bar with a grinder to fit snugly.

I switch to using the sram BB30 bearings and after 1200 miles I've not had a single glitch from them

They do look nice! I'm tempted now...

The Rotor seems a bit more proven but the Praxis works adaptor looks to be the best around at the moment, assuming it proves the test of time. Reviews and tests are few and far between but i am pretty certain that both would prove a worthy adaptor for BB30 and the plus is they are a bearing upgrade also. Praxis make a big deal about their bearings, even to the point that they prefer to ceramic. They are though, begrudgingly, going to make a ceramic version due to demand. Price will be £100+ i'd imagine. Rotor do a ceramic version which is £130+. Erm, no thanks.

Which one to get.................

Bikeradar had a quick word to say about the Praxworks adaptor

My TT bike manual states the FSA adapter is a permanent modification on carbon frames, but can be pressed back out on alu frames.
I have a Giant TCR Composite 3 - it came with an FSA press fit BB and FSA cranks - does this mean that I can't swap the BB out and fit 105 cranks?

If you have a bb30 bottom bracket then it is not compatible with Shimano 105.

What it sounds like is that you have is bb30 press fit bearings, these can be changed, you press them out and press in a new pair, they are consumables.

If your bike came with a bb30 bottom bracket, that is most likely why it is supplied with an FSA crankset and bb30 bearing assembly rather than 105 to match the rest of your kit. The reason this is the case is because Shimano don't/didn't support bb30.

You could remove the bb30 bearings and press in an adapter (like the FSA one) so you can install a Shimano bottom bracket, but you won't ever be able to take that adapter back out. There are other non-permanent ways to gain compatibility, read up page.

Basically the press fit bearings are not equal to the press fit adapter.

Your bike will not have come with BB30
I think you can swap them out. The Giant isn't BB30, i believe it is BB86. Mega exo press fit. It is my understanding that you would need an adaptor like this which allows BB86 to be used for Shimano Hollwtech.

Here is a thread from slowtwitch which addresses the matter to an extent.

Thanks guys, specifically (as per the quote in my post) Rob mentioned that the FSA adaptor was a permanent addition to carbon frames, therefore I wondered if I could change the BB to suit the Hollowtech cranks, however the shop I bought the bike from have just told me that I can just put the Shimano cranks straight on to what is fitted.... I'm going to have a tinker later and try with the Tiagra cranks from my commuter.... I will report back!

It is, but to clarify, the FSA adapter, is an adapter made by FSA.

It is not particularly a component that enables the use of FSA cranks and bottom brackets.

Okay, they should know best but it was my impression that the FSA BB is slightly different to the Shimano equivalent and that there could be fit/use issues.
