Just installed a new square tapered BB on a steel frame and encountered an issue with the non drive side. The drive side screwed in fine but the other side seems to have a couple threads still showing. I can't tighten it anymore more, it's in that tight !
Let me know what you think guys.
Shell is correct size btw

providing there are enough threads holding insude the frame, is there a problem? Presumably you have a bit of wiggle room to move the whole unit. it left or right to best suit the chainline?

BIG CAVEAT- the above comment is based on engineering logic, not actual knowledge of BB fitting - well -I have fitted one years ago but can't remember how much it stuck out.

If you unscrewed the drivers side a few turns would the other side screw up a bit .
Ie even out the threads with a touch of lock thread on . Just a thought .

is locktite really wise? I hear a lot about 'em getting stuck, but havn't heard about them.undoing by themselves.

I dare say it happened to someone I guess despite left hand thred on whichever side it is.

I was under the impression that if anything, you stick a bit of copper slip on the BB threads to stop it from welding itself to the frame.

Should there be a lock ring on that?

that's a thought - especially if it's old fashioned adjustable cups.

The cup is designed to butt up against the bearing - so if it is already doing that, then it's fine as it is. No issues with a few threads showing and no lock ring needed.

Ought to be ok - you'll know if the cup isn't seated properly because the crank arm will move when you fit it. What BB is it?
