I have an FSA Gossamer compact crankset on my Focus Mares CX commuter and the BB (megaxo 6000) is clicking like mad and generally sounds like it is on it's way out. I've been doing some research prior to purchasing a new one, and it seems that these bb's don't seem to like our British weather and don't last very long (i've done about 1800 miles on mine).

I've recently upped my commute distance and will be doing around 5000 miles a year, so at around 40quid a pop it might get expensive to keep replacing these. Would I be better changing my crankset to Shimano Tiagra and use the Tiagra HTII BB? I can afford to replace these a bit more often!

What would you do?

I've always found the FSA Gossamer to be made of cheese. It was almost a relief (apart from the cost) when I bent the one on my Ti bike and had to replace it. If you can afford it, I'd go for a 105 with Hollowtech II. You won't need to replace the HTII very often, they rarely go wrong . In fact on the occasions when I have bought a new HTII, the problem has turned out to be somewhere else.
