Just got my first little camera this morning, not the best thing in the world but it'll serve a purpose till I get an Uber one (then use this one as rear-facing).

I was planning to helmet mount it but it looks like it might be a bit tricky.
Do you camera cyclists preffer to mount the cam on the bars or on the helmet? I might be able to rig it to my lid, not center though it'd be off to one side.
I can mount it easily right in the middle of the bars mind.

The advantage of mounting it on the helmet is that it records where you look, although usually with a reduced field of view. Also you body acts as suspension system for you head meaning it will not vibrate so much, quite important with CMOS camera's.

Dont use a camera myself, but as I understand it from other peoples posts, helmet mounted gives you a reference point if set up right. i.e. you can see your handlebars and therefore close passes and so on are easier to confirm.

If you mount it on your helmet, imagine how it will affect the outcome of the sort of accident you believe you are protecting yourself against by wearing the helmet in the first place.

I prefer to mount my ATC 5K on the bars but its a bit of a brick and I don't think my neck muscles would be strong enough, I think though I prefer something in front of me rather than on my head but vibration can be a problem and the mic is almost useless there.

But surely there isn't any other reason apart for mounting a camera?

An issue I have found with mounting the camera on the bars is that it sits level with the bottom of most car windows. So makes it difficult to record those people who are texting on the phone when they shouldn't be.

Indeed, that is why I like the contour helmet mount, as any sort of collision and the rails just snap and the camera is no longer attached to your head.

get the position wrong on your helmet and you end up filming a lot of nothing. also cheap cameras cant really cope with any fast movements made by your head so you have to learn to keep your head steady.

handle bar mount works best for me, although you do get a bit of vibration

This may help you decide... I used to have a cheap Muvi clone (MD80) and mounted it on my reflector bracket... Result is below

Bought another camera (still cheap) and mounted it onto a strap, which is now elasticated on my forehead:

Much clearer, less vibration. If I land on my forehead I'll have an imprint for a while (there is nothing between camera and skin), but at least the evidence will be clear enough to know whose fault an accident was.

Dude this is pretty much exactley what I've done lol
The cam I have for now is also a Muvi MD80 wannabe... I actually think it's alright as a stand in/future rear-facing - at least when considering it cost under 13quid from ebay!

I to mounted it on the reflector bracket yesterday. Your example turned out better than mine for some reason, even though it looked level, I filmed an aweful lot of sky!

Today I took the short routes to and from work with it mounted bang in the middle of my helmet, dunno how that's turned out yet, results to follow.

You must have a very big memory card if you're hoping to catch all those playing with mobile phones while driving.

HD eats up about 4Gb per hour.......

So a two hour commute needs 8Gb
