I bought some (Ritchey) barrel adjusters for STIs with the assumption that they would fit in the downtube cable-stops. However they come attached to a little bung which is clearly intended to sit not in the stops but in the shifter. Presumably I can just remove this bung and screw them into the stops as originally planned, but is there any advantage to having them at the shifter end? Functional and aesthetic considerations welcome. They look like this with the bung still attached:

For the rear, it is easier to adjust there and see the mech centering on the cog.
Noted. What is your view on the aesthetic issues?
