Barrel adjuster

Hi everyone

I’m thinking of changing the internal gear cables on my bike (just done the brakes, without any major disaster, which is going some for me).

The cable that goes to the rear derailed has 2 barrel adjusters, one by the derailer and one close to the shifters.

Whilst I understand that turning the rear one allows slight adjustment of the derailer, what does the one on the front do?

Do I have to have 2 adjusters?

Exactly the same. It's supposed to let you trim your indexing on the go, but if you have a close clearance frame and are a bit careless you can also trim a finger nail.

I've got a 10spd Campagnolo set up on 1 of my bikes, with the bar-end shifters that has 3 adjusters fitted in the rear gear cable run.
