I was in the local branch of Screwfix Direct at the weekend and they had Dewalt safety glasses that looked to be quite good for cycling. They were on a special offer at £6.99 I believe, so I bought a pair.

They are really good and a close fit to the face so that there is no wind around the eyes. I rode with them today and despte loads of insects flying around, none got behind the glasses. They are quite a dark tint and have the bonus of a shock cord loop attached to the arms so that one can look like something out of Hinge & Bracket if one has to take them off. The arms are without a hooked portion that comes down behind the ears, but have long straight arms with a curve in them to wrap around the back of the head - they will not move when your head is down and you are really going for it.

Being safety specs from a big name brand they should be good in an impact.

I've been wearing a pair of Peltor safety specs for around a year. Blue mirror wraparounds from ARCO. http://www.arco.co.uk/products/3C3300/121177/Peltor_Metaliks_Sport_Safety_Spectacles

I've had various safety glasses in the past. You can get some really stylish ones for a fraction of the price of dedicated cycle glasses. The best pair I had were a pair of Bolle ones which looked the business.

The only problem with cheap safety specs is that they are seldom scratch resistant, being designed as a throw away item once damaged. Don't put them in a pocket with your keys, as they won't last long.

yeah I resent paying £100+ for some plastic glasses so I bought some Infield safety glasses off ebay for £5.00 they come with for sets of lens incl yellow lenses which are terrific on overcast days.
Wrapround snug fit they are a bargain.

The Bolle range of safety specs are excellent. I have a couple of pairs of photochromic ones I got a eBalg new for about £5. They are simply excellent. Hardly wear my super cool Briko multi lens ones any more.

And no you can't buy them off me for £2.
