I was picking a few bits up from my lbs yesterday and was looking at one of the cube's (not sure what model)

Anyway the first thing I noticed was the bar tape was very thick and very padded, really comfortable to hold

I'm looking at changing my bar tape soon and would like to get something like this, the one on the cube was made by cube as it had the word cube indented on the tape

It was literally like holding pipe lagging it was so thick and comfortable

Anyone know of any bar tape like this thick and spongey

Specialized do a bar tape called Phat Wrap which has gel pads that go under the tape, and also Roubaix tape which is gel backed, could it be either of them?

i have fizik on mine - much thicker and more comfortable than the standard "Giant" tape

Nice one guys, will be ordering some soon

Just a word of caution, I found the Phat Wrap gel inserts made the bars a little too thick in that it affected the comfort in my hands, whereas the Roubaix tape has been excellent - plenty of padding and no real noticeable difference in thickness, if that makes sense.

it's called gel tape
got mine from tredz
complete with 'finishing tape' [ a 6'' sticky strip which locks the last turn] and 2 bar end plugs
I always thought the art was to start near the stem and work toward the ends, doing away with the need for tape to finish off as you tuck the remainder in using the end plugs, easier to remove brake levers as well.

If you do it that way, then the tape will roll over at the edges or slide down the bar and get ragged a lot quicker. Start at the end of the bar and work up and toward the stem.
