Bar tape, what's a good one?

I want to replace the bar tape on my bike. Ideally looking for a grey tape (to match the new saddle!).

Don't know anything about the stuff, any suggestions for the type/brand to go for? Confused about Cork, Gel etc.

IMHO there's nowt better than Lizard Skins. Pricey though!

I have Cinelli Gel tape and I like it. It's not adhesive though, just has a rubbery strip that holds it tight on the bars, seems to stay on though.

Tape isn't much cheaper online, I'd go and see an LBS and ask if you can have a look at some, see what you take a fancy too.

I like Specilized Bar Phat. It's got some padding in the tape, and it comes with little gel pads to put underneath it. Lasts for ages and it's very comfy indeed (the gel pads will outlast many rolls of tape).

I use Profile cork tape, with a similar gripper strip to colinr's Cinelli gel. I like the rubber strip rather than adhesive - the bars or lower layer of tape remain clean, and you can easily remove and re-wrap it.

I've got some spesh stuff on the sirrus (I think it was an earlier or cheaper version of the bar phat; its got the gel attached to the back of the tape) in regards of endurance its great and I can't fault it for comfort; it doesn't stay in place as well as the tape on my other bikes but thats maybe because I fitted the spesh stuff and lbs's fitted the other bikes

Ritchey Pro Cork has a nice Roubaix feel, and it's fairly cheap.

I've got Sram Cork tape on the summer bike, not ridden it yet!

Fizik Microtex. Not the most cushioned, but looks way better than any of the cork stuff and even white tape can be wiped clean. And it's only about a tenner

Cinelli cork tape.

The Al Ribble (harsh frame) has a layer of Cinelli shaped gel pads under the tape to give a bit more cushioning - similar to Bar Phat as far as I can see.
