Lizardskins for me

I like the 3.2mm for serious cushioning but it's not very shiny
The spotty 1.8 is still quite cushioned and lovely looking

Or if you want really shiny Fizik gloss... @jefmcg has used the red before

It's not especially cushioned I think so you might want to double wrap with something cheaper underneath

Spot on. I would usually go with a simple 'like' to say I agree, but in this case apart from commenting on jefmcg choice of colour I would have written the same word for word.

There's a new Specialized S-Wrap shiny padded bar tape that I've had fitted to my Secteur.

Unfortunately, until this weekend, there's not been a chance to test it ...

Red fizik is lovely to look at but very thin. It was the only shiny red that I could find. Keeps it's looks.

Are you feeling better now then after your accident?

A bit better - thanks. The hip bursitis I've ended up with is worse than the ribs at the moment, which are healing slowly.

I've double wrapped it and the bars are now absolutley massive, I'm going to have to redo it I think as I only have small hands.

I've got an inner tube under my bar tape, cut to length and secured with electrical tape.

Alternatively you can get gel pads.

Sort of resurrection here...
I'm wanting to double wrap my bars (I've got large hands) to see if it provides me with any further comfort.
Currently have the standard tape that comes with Specialized Allez Elite and want to wrap over this. What thickness would we all suggest?

Lizard skins dsp, the 3.2 is v thick. Perhaps try the 2.5 as a compromise?

Any thickness to be honest,but agree prob not 3mm+, you get benefit from the double wrap.
