Okay, so I might be acquiring a Carrera Virtuoso - I'll be upgrading the wheels, giving it a good clean and replacing a few parts, one of which will be the bar tape - so what colour should I go for?

The main frame is blue/black, and the forks the same colour. It currently has a black saddle, although I may be replacing this.

Please make non serious suggestions obvious, so I don't end up riding around with pink handle bars! ;)

Black, some might say boring, I say practical, and also co-ordinating with your black saddle. Avoid white like the plague, it's only white until your first ride

Got to be black, unless you can find some blue that exactly matches the colour in the frame, otherwise it will look like you tried and failed to get it right.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Black, my virtuoso has a blue that isnt perfect and although its ok it does look a bit wrong.

Avoid white, even on a white bike it starts to look cack very quickly as it soon goes a mucky off white.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Obey the Rules! Velominati
Rule #8 / Saddles, bars, and tires shall be carefully matched.[sup]3[/sup]Valid options are:

  • Match the saddle to the bars and the tires to black; or
  • Match the bars to the color of the frame at the top of the head tube and the saddle to the color of the frame at the top of the seat tube and the tires to the color where they come closest to the frame; or
  • Match the saddle and the bars to the frame decals; or
  • Black, black, black

Nothing that matches.

Nothing that coordinates.

It is endlessly dull to see carefully colour-coordinated bicycles on the road.

Something stripey, but make sure none of the colours matches any colour on your bike.
