Bar ends that expand in the bar tube.

Hi

Anyone know where i can get bar ends that fit inside of the handlebar and expand as opposed to wrapping around the bar. The wife's Pendleton Brooke has moulded handlebar grips and theres no room to put normal bar ends on it. The end cap pops off, so if i can get bar ends that fit in that hole, they should be all good. Cant find them on google - maybe they have a special name??

Cheers

No, I've only seen bar end caps and some mirrors that do that. I'd expect it wouldn't take the loading of someone steering with them.

Why not cut or replace the moulded grips?

You could maybe try asking on Retrobike. I think waaay back when, the first generation of bar ends worked in the way you want. Sort of like a mini quill stem with an expander wedge.

Of course my brain might have just wobbled!

They'll wreck your bars, which is why they're no longer available.

They don't need to go inside the bar if you move her grips and controls inwards to make enough space to fit them.

I'll have a look at moving everything inwards, but i think it's pretty tight due to the nature of the shifters.

Just went 13 rounds with the moulded handlebar grips after managing to shift the brake levers and shifter inwards about 15mm. I did win in the end, although my right hand feels like its been on a belt sander. Now the missus tells me i need to find purple bars to match the colour scheme of the bike!!

The moulded grips won't last now you've started moving them about. Before too long they will be like so many ergo grips you see on poorly maintained bikes, where the paddy bit has rolled to face the floor, and is useless as a result.

Your best bet is to cut them off and get some lock on ergo grips, which are fairly cheap and plenty of choices come open ended so you can fit bar ends.

They were still pretty stiff after i'd moved them, seemed no looser than they originally were. We'll see; if they start moving around then like you say, I'll get some better ones for her.

A little off topic I know, but I bought a mirror that expanded into the end of the bars.
It was an absolutely fantastic design.

Just as you realised what a pile of poo it was it fell out and smashed on the road.
