So after months of deliberation while recovering from a shoulder operation I took the plunge and invested in a Dolan Etape. (thanks for the tip vickster).
It arrived last Saturday and after a 10k test ride I adjusted the gears.
At work the following conversation began.
Boss. "Oh I'm doing a cycling event on Wednesday if your up for it?"
Me "yeh sounds good"
On arrival
Me "So how fare are we cycling" inermonologue 20-30k.
Boss. "60 miles"
Me "inner and outer monologue. Oh .......... (Fill in own expletives)
Bear in mind the furthest I have ever cycled is probably 10 miles and not cycled regularly for 2-3 years.
Needless to say I survived my legs are in bits at the 40 mile point I was calling myself an ideot and so were the members of the Royal Navy Royal Marines Cycling club but hay I done it no problems and the bike is amazing.
I would totally recommend a solan it's comfortable even with my injury and on the flat I kept up at what seemed a steady 25 mph.
Really enjoyed it but think I will stick to 20 miles for my fitness rides.
