This morning,Mrs and Miss Postman were upstairs spending hundreds of dollars on tickets for our holiday in America this coming summer.Theatre tickets,Amtrak tickets,Entrance tickets, one purchase was $800 alone. So one of the transactions was stopped in America. In seconds my wife got an email from the bank to contact them. They were put at ease when told what was going on.A notice has been put on our account telling the bank to expect money to be going out during ten days this summer.Tell you what i am impressed with the quick response when the money began leaving our account.

Donkeys years ago when I lived in South Africa the bank did the same, put a note on the account that activity was expected there. When I came home for Christmas and I was entertaining the family to Sunday dinner my card was declined ("voice referral" in those days) in my local in blighty.

I tried to buy a brand new Merc van with my Switch card once (Kids, ask your dad what Switch was). It got stopped, so I wrote a personal cheque instead. They still let me drive it away there and then..... Bet you couldn't do that nowadays?

My wife got a call from a real person on Boxing Day to say her card had been used for large an unusual transaction. Very impressed with that service on a bank holiday. The bank wouldn’t disclose the amount or what it was for.
Turns out her details were stolen whilst Christmas shopping on a dodgy Chinese website.

We received 3 calls just before Christmas, supposedly from our banks fraud dept. (Obviously fake).
Called the bank anyway to make sure.
The real bank checked our last transactions, (did you shop at Lush, etc. today).
I hadn’t but Mr M had for some of my prezzies!
Surprise spoiled but no harm done, thankfully.

Visiting The Philippines a few years ago l took the precaution of telling my bank we would be visiting and transactions from there between such and such dates were genuine.
Manila, 2nd day there, could l buggery get cash out of a machine ? :cursing:
Even going into the HSBC bank made no difference.

Things are better now.

Things certainly seem better now. I had a work trip to Uruguay in 2007 I think, I didn't expect to spend anything but had to make a purchase of around £100 on a CC. . No questions, nothing. Never even been to S America , so I was surprised it didn't even flag up at the time of purchase.
I was almost ( genuinely) put out about it.

When I was buying my first house 18 years ago I did most of the buying from a bulk of savings. I've never had so many phone calls from the Halifax.
They also very rapidly increased my credit card limit from £2,000 to £9,000
