Have any of you ever had a bike stolen?

I have been fortunate enough so far but my brother did have his bike stolen a couple of years back.

Every now and then we see unlocked half decent bikes leaning against street furniture around the town and on the through routes of the town. They appear around the town all at the same time. I am sure they must be bait bikes on a periodic police operation.

CPS prefer them locked, saves the 'I found it and was due to drop it into the police station later' defence.

The cycle task force in london use's bait bikes to catch bicycle thieves, they have had some really good results.

Not in relation to bait bikes, but to do with locking up your bike - I was at the town where my girlfriend lives waiting outside the supermarket for her with my bike (as I forgot lock

), and I was amazed to see 3 cyclists all pull up and just leave their bikes outside unattended and unlocked, and my girlfriend was like "Why didn't you just come in?" and I said "Because I didn't have a lock, don't want it getting stolen", then she was like "It won't get stolen, people leave their bikes outside all the time"....Needless to say I was surprised at the trust people have.

If I lived in Carlisle it'd be triple locked, sorry Carlisleians!

The only time I left it unlocked it was stolen but very luckily was returned as he chap that nicked it subsequently got himself caught robbing houses.

You only do it once!
