Got the bike out the shed today and the front tyre was flat as a pancake.
Seeing as I've only managed 40 miles so far ,a bit cheesed off..I located a drawing pin through the tread and tube, picked up on my last ride.
Is there a tyre on the market that could have avoided a drawing pin/tack puncture..or was it just bad luck.
Currently use schwalbe citizen tyres.

Just bad luck I think. I've never used schwalbe my self but I think they do good tyres, their marathon plus is reported to be very robust but you probably lose in the extra weight.

I can vouch for Continental touring plus, not had a puncture ( yet ) with these and done app 700 miles with them.
They are a little heavier than my last tyres but for me a good trade as I,m not in a race.

As the piccie above illustrates, drawing pins don't puncture Marathon +. I've pulled one out of mine and the tyre was fine. I've also removed shards of glass. The tyres are incredibly puncture proof- I've been commuting on mine for a couple of years and have not had a single flat.

It's just bad luck. I've had the same - on the supplied tyres one of my bikes only had 3 punctures in 10 years while the other had 6 in 6 months (including 3 in 1 week - all from hawthorn). Since getting better tyres a year or two back (Marathon on one bike and Continental Tour Ride on the other) I've had no problems so far... (Goes and touches wood). As a bonus the new tyres are faster and more comfortable than what I had before.

No tyre is invincible but some are definitely better than others.

I have had the same problem. However, mine is more mysterious.

I purchased my new bike and the day after, went out for a 20 mile ride. I was then in the garage for a week, and then the front tyre was flat. I pumped it up but it was flat the next day.

I havent ridden it hard (its a mountain bike) but it shouldnt have gone flat after a few miles.

If you can't find the cause then it may be something embedded deep in the tyre.
Take the tyre off and run your fingers (very carefully as to not cut yourself) round the inside of the tyre to see if anything is poking through.

+1. If it's a thorn it might not be immediately obvious and as I found the hard way thorn punctures can sometimes be slow enough to hold pressure for a ride but not overnight.
