Woke up on Monday rareing to go for a ride but had a bad feeling about what would I do if I broke down miles away from anywhere and had to walk and in which way. Anyway decided if it happens it happens but to make things easier I checked out all towns and villages that had cycle shops or anything related around the area that I cycle and programmed them into my Edge 305 so I could easily work out the shortest walk to sort my problems out. Hopefully I will never have to test it out
Yesterday went out on a 50 miler, I punctured miles from anywhere, first this year. Rather than take the easy option of fitting my spare innertube, I thought I would repair it, the conditions were attrocious so it would be a good test in an emergency in similar conditions when it is the only option. Repaired the innertube and 4 miles down the road, another puncture, checking the innertube I found my patch had blown off, so once again I repaired it and low and behold a few miles further down the road it happened again. This time I used my spare innertube and got home Ok.
In the evening I tried to repair my innertube but found none of my patches would hold and came to the decision that my rubber solution had gone off or was not compatible with my innertube along with the patches as I recall I had got this repair kit over 10 years ago and had never been used. Anyway dug my new kit out which I don't carry with me as it is too bulky and succesfully repaired the innertube.
The moral of the story is check your repair kit that it does work and for the price of it buy a new one if it is old.
