hi , bit of a newby here but i bought an APOLLO PHAZE from halfords last year in the cycle 2 work scheme and the bike really suits me and me it. trouble is i have had the bike back to the shop on numerous occassions to have the back wheel fixed ( bearings, cogs, cassette and even new chain and now it needs to go back in again (wobbly back wheel). is it worth putting a new ( non halfords products) back wheel and bearings etc or should i just cut my losses and run to work lol. the bike is used for commuting 100 miles per week at most, on road and good cycle paths and wee runs on cycle paths at weekend. love cycling ...... love the bike but what should i do ............ thanks

Take it back and insist that they give you a good wheel. They will have spare wheels hanging around.

If you tell them how many miles you do per week i can't see them helping much, that is 5000 miles a year.

I found an appollo bike fairly poor, it was the first bike i bought down here,Im from Paisley too coincidentally. i was buying new stuff for it on a regular basis.

It's amazing how short a life a freewheel cassette can have, i got one from halfords and within 8 or 10 weeks i needed another one, i had done a lot of miles but these £10 freewheels are poor.

In my own case i gave up on the appollo and bought something dearer, my appollo was £100- , i'm now on my 3rd bike in the space of 4 years the wheels i'm using now are stronger than other wheels i have had.

I taught myself a lot of bike repairs, from the net, and asking advice in cycle shops, i can now do quite a few different types of repairs.

If your doing that sort of mileage these are going to need replacing anyway, i do a similar mileage and expect to get through 2-3 chains a year + a cassette as well.On top of that your looking at a couple of sets of brake pads and a rear tyre .
Is the wheel wobbly as in loose or are the wheels solid but they wobble because they need "trueing " where the spoke tension needs to be adjusted to make the wheel round again? If its the later then thats again just general wear and tear that can be kept on top of by a bit of practice, a small selection of tools and a bit of know how.If it is loose do the cones need some adjustment? These are all jobs that can be done easily and cheaply .

How many miles have you done? If you rode the bike through the winter then it has done well as winter time really eats bike parts .

Most of what you have said sounds like jobs you can do yourself with a little practice and will save a shed load of money on service charges, if you are not sure then it is always best to take it into a shop but you get great satisfaction doing these sort of jobs yourself.

Today i spent a nice morning cleaning, lubing and checking tyres for glass bits and adjusting my indexing on the back gears , runs like a dream again.
