Hi

I've just changed my rear mech after a crash and I've noticed that when I back pedal there seems to be more resistance than a remember before and the wheel starts to move, albeit slowly.

Is it just my head playing tricks on me and is this normal or does it sound like something's not quite right? The bike has done about 1500 miles and it's the original hub/wheel that came with the bike. It's a Specialized Allez Elite and I believe the hubs are Asix 1.0 or something?! I've just worried that maybe the bearing are going in the hub or something?! But if I'm honest I'm new to all this mechanics stuff so could be completely wrong.

Eventually I do intend on changing the wheels but could do with eeking at least this winter out of them.

Cheers

It could just be tight jockey wheels if the mech is new.

It's possible that the freewheel is stiff, but if it wasn't before my money (a small amount) is in the new jockey wheels.

You think you have problems? When I back pedal I end up back where I started .

Longers nearly rode backwards over me on one forum ride ... We were admiring a view and he was doing a trackstand in front of me on a gentle uphill slope. Next thing, I realised that he was reversing slowly in my direction!

That at least would have been preferable to the accident I nearly caused when dan_bo came thundering up behind me on fixed after a steep descent. I didn't realise that he had caught up with me and I slowed down rather quicker than he was able to. It was nearly a case of 'the irresistible force meets the immovable object'!

The slight resistance in the freewheel pawls when you pedal backwards is what makes the wheel move - nothing to do with the new mech.

I'm guessing I should put a dash of oil in them maybe?!
Just get his money out of them first, no point in it going to waste.
Agree with the comment on freehub pawls, by the way, because I see the same every time I pedal backwards when cleaning my drivetrain.
