morning ,
been back on my bike this morning for the 1st time since feb/march due to being diagnosed with post viral fatigue syndrome, which left me with no energy to function let alone work or cycling . my boss has been really good if ive needed to go home half way through the day ....... yes its been that bad

well back at work full time now and thought it was time to dust the cobwebs off my bib shorts and my 3 series Trek Mountain bike .. 6.4 miles in 32 minutes not too bad I don't think :bicycle:
feel knackered tho

Faster than me, just starting riding again a few weeks ago on a 20 mile round commute. Keep up the good work as it must get easier, thats what I keep telling myself although at the moment I am unconvinced.

Hope it all works well for you. I'd take it easy for starters having been a knackered person (overactive thyroid) in the past I sympathise with your tiredness - very hard to explain that it's not just like normal weariness to those that have not likewise suffered. It's just that your body literally will not go! No matter how hard you try.

I didn't know I was ill until about 3 years back I was climbing Scafell Pike when my climbing buddy just took 200m out of me (we are usually well matched) and, along with my sadly now gone dog, he disappeared over a false summit - I was mystified and it was not for another 6 months or so that I was properly diagnosed.

Good luck.

why do so many people worry about what speed they are going at surely its more important just to enjoy your riding at what ever pace you like doing it at !

True, but a lot of it is a competitive thing, even though in most cases it just friendly fun, the other thing is just because you can do 15mph+ doesn't mean you have to, but to be able to do so you must first work at it, and that is where the need to improve your avg speed comes from, it's also the one thing most people can readily see improve, even from a cheap bike computer.
