I was getting ready for an early bike ride tomorrow morning and was checking my back brakes (caliber brakes on specialized allez sport). The brake arm that is on the same side as the brake cable and quick release is staying stuck to the rim when i release my brake lever. not sure what is going on and it is too late to take it to my bike mechanic. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks

I had the same problem a while back. I managed to fix it by spraying the callipers with GT85, followed by a thorough lubing of both the caliper and the brake cable.

Check the pivot that that side of the calliper turns around. Hopefully, it could be a bit dirty. If you use GT85 - or any lubricant - be careful about getting the spray on the braking surfaces.

Yes lube your cable line as others have said, and check to see if the pad is not gunked up/ so worn that it is sticking.

You can also increase the spring tension so the brake opens quicker with a very small allen key on top of the brake (dependent on make), you will need to re center the brakes after tweaking this.

I've just fixed a similar issue on my Specialized Secteur today as the rear brake jammed up on my ride in to work yesterday morning. It was dirty cables on mine, a quick clean up and a few drops of oil sorted it.

Guys thanks for all the advice. Managed to sort the problem out. Nothing to do with the calibers at all. it was the outer brake cable housing running from the seat tube into the brake caliber itself. I released the brke cable from the tightening bolt and tried to push/pull the out cable a bit. It was sticking badly. pulled it up the brake cable and the cable itself was covered in a white deposit. The cable and/or inside of the out brake cable housing is badly corroded and therefore causeing the resistance. I lubed it up and put some grease on it as a temporary meaure and the brakes are working fine again. Just need to go and get a new cable and bit of out cable. The winter weather really takes its toll on your bike parts.

thanks again

This happens to my Allez all the time, especially after prolonged wet weather (no mudguards makes the problem manifest itself quicker).
I fix it by cleaning the pivot points on the caliper with gt85, followed by a bit of oil.

I have an Allez Elite as well and changed my rear brake inner and outer cables, stripped the caliper and cleaned. Reassembled brakes and still the brake won't return after pulling brake and sticks on the rims.

Is the bolt just below the centering screw play a part in the operation? I just can't work it out.... any assistance or tips would be top notch! (Tiagra brakes)

Cheers
