Avon Trail

Did the Avon Trail yesterday starting and finishing in Portishead marina.

Used route 26 from Portishead to Portbury then route 41 up the side of the River Avon to Bristol. Really interesting ride about 11 miles each way.

Did it on my little single speed folder so would say that any bike would be OK.

Very enjoyable morning and can recommend Brunels Buttery on the side of the Bristol Floating Harbour for bacon sarnies

You can meet chav's on motorbikes on that path but that's probably more likely at the weekend.

I'm trying to think what I normally call that path but I'm sure its not that (not saying that's not what its called).

Damn, that means the queue at Brunel's Buttery is going to get even longer...

One comment - you have to go a bit carefully on a 23mm road/racer due to the gravel and ruts in some places, but most other bikes are fine. I do the opposite trip once in a while, glad you enjoyed the area -

Thanks for the replies.Im encouraged now to visit again and pick a different route.Maybe up over the Avonmouth bridge then along the Severn beach I think theres a cycle path along there on the OS map.

Re idiots on motorbikes I try to do cycle paths in the mornings when idiots are probably still in bed,on the Taff Trail between Cardiff and Merthyr there are loads of anti motorcycle barriers that you have to stop put your feet down then wriggle the bike through. It really does spoil the ride in a way as in places they are close together.

Difficult to get the balance right I guess between keeping motorcycles out and spoiling the route for cyclists.

Wouldnt want to meet the guy who dropped these tools.
