This winter's build is nearing completion. Salsa Warbird frame in a cyclocross/gravel bike/adventure bike configuration. I was about to buy a pair of Avid BB7s when I noticed that they come in 'Road' and "MTB' variations which has made me hesitate. I'm intending to match them with Tektro RL340 brake levers on dropped handlebars. has anyone had any experiences which would help me to choose?

As I understand it, you need a road brake for a road lever - so for those levers, get the BB7 Road. But why? Road levers pull less cable than MTB style levers, so the brake needs to actuate on a shorter pull. If you fitted the MTB variation, you'd find that you'd be pulling the lever all the way in without fully engaging the brake.

Oooh - and make sure to use good compressionless brake cable housings - I've got jagwire stuff on my drop bars with road BB7s and it seems to work OK. Good luck with the build!
