I have Avid BB5 disc brakes on the front.

Last night i tried to change the pads. The inboard pad [non-piston, closest to the wheel] came off as per expected. The outboard pad [the one in contact with the piston and the one that moves when you brake] did not come off as expected. i did try to prise them apart with a knife but it would not come apart. On looking, it appeared that the outboard pad had been fused to the piston/caliper.

Could this be due to heat build up? i dont brake heavily at all and its a hybrid bike.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I am using semi-organic pads if that makes any difference?

Thanks

Is the cable bolt completely removed? iirc the cable bolt acts as a pad retainer on the moving pad.

Not sure what you mean. The cable bolt was not removed, I didnt need to on previous occasions. The pads just fell out when the leaf spring [which keeps both pads separate] is removed.

i cant see that the cable bolt has an effect on the pads within

When you replace those pads, be sure to push them right in firmly until they click into place.
