Hiya, I was wondering if anyone knows a source of used spares, specifically some rigid MTB forks, as I'm heartily sick of the heavy cheap units on my commuting hack, and as its worth about thruppence ha'penny cleaned up, I don't want to throw money at it whilst I wait for the CTW scheme to start up. Any help gratefully received!

not as straightforward as it might seem. have a look on eBay but be sure you know what length of fork you need, else you'll change the geometry of the bike, and perhpas not for the better, the size of the steerer tube and the type of headset. only three variables what could possible go wrong?;)

and watch out 'good' ones are sought after by retrobike MTB'ers (like me) and SS builders alike so can be expensive.

SJS should be able to help as well, or Merlin cycles.

+1. I think you are correct in what you want to do and you will feel a huge improvement to the bike; however it is a very difficult task unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Rigid forks are really common on Ebay and can be bought for less then ten pounds easily. ie i have bought cannondale pepperoni, kona p2's and ritchey forks on there for all less than tenner.

If you are not sure what you want/need, ask this question in know how and you will get an answer

Thanks for the replies, especially jimboalee and the spokes connection, I went down there, and its a real Alladins cave of spares so long as you don't want trick or unduly fancy bits, really friendly and helpful, and best of all, they recycle landfill bourne bikes and parts and put them back where they belong--- in use! Found a rigid fork, abd they threw in the very seviceable headset and with a bit of judiciuos cutting and fettling, I've got a nice new (old) front end. Can't wait to try it out on the Monday comute.
