Hello experienced cyber-chums. I have a novice winter clothing question.

When I first bought my bike I went to Halfords and bought a cheapo 'breathable'(not very) Polaris rain coat. Now during the summer months, when I cycled in the downpours no rain got in, but due to the lack of ventilation I got pretty clammy.

I've got a limited budget for winter kit and I am faced with a dliema.

Do I get rid of the not-very breathable coat in favour of something better like an Altura Night Vision £65 jobby.

or do I stick with the cheapo waterproof and get a soft shell jacket thingy which will keep me warmer as I won't sweat as much in the waterproof anyway, because it's colder?

Thanks in advance.

one of these to keep you warm, and then a light weight waterproof jacket, like the ones that foldup into its own pocket type for when it rains worn over the top of the altura jacket

I actually only just got my altura jacket today ordered from that site on sunday, Cannot beat that price!!

IMHO Even expensive waterproof jackets will make you clammy.

Some riders on here ride in the wet expecting to get wet but get clothing thats dries quickly.

I have that jacket - It's not too bad and if you get some decent layers underneath you will be fine.

For the cold (Under 5 Degree C) I use a £20 jacket from decathlon. Got me through last winter.

I have a foska skeleton training jacket. Keeps the weather out for the best part of an hour unless the rain/snow is torrential. The reflectiveness is great - you can hear cars slowing behind you and giving a wider berth.
