Hi

Can anyone give some advice on looking for an Audax bike. I have been riding a saracen skyline touring bike for some years and have recently been entering a few audaxes on it. I have now got up to 200km. I have been holding off buying a different bike cos i thought work might start a CTW, however it seems that this will not be the case .

I have got on well with the touring bike but just cant help feeling that it is too heavy for purpose. With back and front lednlights it weighs in at +14kg. Certainly other riders who seem to be on the organised audaxes are riding much lighter bikes.

Anyone got any thoughts on how to set myself up a bit better for long distance rides?

My requirements are

- must be able to take 28mm and mudguards as my regular training ride takes in 5 miles of cinder track and i would not want to omit this

- rack fittings

- upright riding position

- not sure what frame material to invest in are the tifosi ck7, ribble audax and other aluminium frames worth looking at

- should i just put up with the wieght issue - maybe its about right for a steel bike?

- thanks for any tips

good luck with your search mate

i was looking for the same but found it hard. i ended up picking the bike i already had, carrera subway 2 or similar!!

ive opted for another carrera but a roady, it gives me two completly different options.

ever considered a hybrid, could get what you need but with a flat bar

whats your budget?

Its a bit tight tbh. May just get a frame off ebay and swap me bits over so to speak.

Would like to think that i could get a frame for approx £200-250 that would take 28mm tyres. I have been looking at the tifosi ck7 but don`t know anyone that has one. My other thought is go pick up a kinesis crosslight frame and build up one of those - but don`t know if this frame would be comfy enough to go the distance.

I have ruled out a flat bar bike cos after about 60 miles I need to keep swapping hand position from hoods to curves to drops and then back to prevent neck and wrist fatigue.
