Hello all - just an enquiry about Airnimal sizing - I know these are flexible bikes in terms of fit but I'd like to know how flexible please.

I own a small airnimal chameleon and at 5'6" I can get away without a layback and with a 100mm stem which gives me my preferred seatpost to bar length of 520mm and a fairly untwitchy ride.

One of my friends - 5'11" - is looking to get one and Airnimal say that height is on the cusp of the smaller and larger frames. He'd be looking at a seatpost to bar length of 550mm. With the smaller frame that would mean a whopping great 120mm stem and at least a 10mm layback - or an even bigger layback and a shorter stem. I'm guessing the larger frame would be a better fit. Problem is he's temtped by a smaller one on the bay at the moment.

As we are all suckers for bargains/a bunch of cheapskates* my questions are how big is your airnimal, and how big are you? How well does it work for you?

Doesn't the bottom bracket shell sit behind the seat tube on a Chameleon? If so he could get away with more lay-back - in fact might need it. He ought to measure a current bike and see how far back the saddle is in relation to the BB.

Kirstie, greetings. I think your friend should look for the bigger frame; I am 5ft 9" and found the smaller Chameleon frame ust a little small, using butterfly bars and the standard stem. However, at my height it is very marginal and not a real issue. I think at 5 11 your friend would find it a bit cramped, even with the layback/stem adjustments you are thinking of - which might compromise road handling and ride quality. I leave that angle to more expert riders! I would recommend you take the advice of Airnimal themselves who are good responders to any query. Good luck!
