hi, am fairly new to cycling still and just did the evans ride-it ride last weekend, 60 miles long but i found it pretty difficult, towards the end was something called aston hill, which had its own road sign!!!!!!!
do any of you know this hill and if so how difficult would you say it is on a scale of 1 to 10, just so i know what i may one day come against?

Which one? I know of more than one Aston Hill. Several around Birmingham (unsurprisingly) plus the quite steep one near Aylesbury.

It is a fairly well known - apparently some car manufacturer is named after the hill climb that took place there in the early 20th century.

As for difficulty, it depends what you want to compare it to. It is cetainly one of the more challanging hills in the area (Bison Hill being the only other hill,) but is a mere bump in terms of length and gradient when compared to what you would find in hillier parts of the country.

Aston Hills testing by the Chiltern golf club but a pussy cat after that. If you want to test yourself out on some local hills give Tom's Hill (Albury), the Krong (next to Aston Hill), the Hale (Wendover) or Tank hill from Chinnor a go !!

I rode the Evans event too and must admit to finding Aston Hill a bit of a struggle (and the next one - Dursley?).

Mind you, it didn't help that I'd just fallen off and hurt myself a bit. Had to kick my rear mech straight to engage bottom gear ;)

High Wycombe CC still use Whiteleaf as part of their hilly evening league tie trail circuit, and I reckon that's a killer!! Chinnor hill is pretty steep but very do-able.

I imagine that what with High wycombe being a hill fest its hard to find too flat a route to TT on. Or they are just sadists! Looking forward to starting cycling there anyway, time to become a hill climber!

I remember the High Wycombe CC hilly 22 miler from over 20 years ago, 2 loops up Whiteleaf was a real killer, I never managed to dip under the hour albeit by just a handful of seconds, but it was great fun on fixed.
