Just to see if any one else has suffered this and what they've done about it really.

My upper left arm, I'd say around 3-4 inches down from the shoulder, is giving a great deal of pain when on the bike (and sometimes if a lean on a desk in a particular way). It feels really deep, almost as if the bone itself is hurting rather than a muscle pain. It's not the joint as it's lower down than that (so that rules out gout). I haven't knocked it or anything like that so it's not bruising. Really puzzled as to what it is. I can commute with it but I wouldn't like to do anything longer than a commute.

I'm commuting next week then I'm off for a week so I'll see if resting it does any good.

Any one suffered similar?

Sounds like the pain I am having due to biceps tendonitis. Try ice, heat and slapping some 10% anti inflammatory gel on

If it continues, see a doctor

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure though. It really feels deeper than a tendon issue plus as soon as I remove pressure, it eases a little.

I have been to the doctor before with it but it was a few years ago and can't remember what we did.

Fair enough, time to go back to the doctor again. If it feels like bone, then an x Ray might be in order. Presumably you've never broken that arm?

No never broken anything other than my nose, ribs and a finger. I'll see how it goes after I've rested it for a week and if it's still an issue then back I go.

If we are trying to scare Martin into getting himself down to the doctor ... it is possible to get DVTs in arms (and other places) as well as legs!
It is something I've been to the doc with before (exactly same symptom and same place) and it was judged not too serious. I just can't remember what was done or even if I was just told "Oh it will go away". If it doesn't go away after a week's rest the week after next, I'll go back to doc.

This may sound stupid but have you been doing activities where your arms have been level to or above your shoulders or carrying something heavy? You may have pulled or aggravated a previous muscle tear in your deltoid area where it joins your bicep/tricep? This is about 3/4 inches down from your shoulder.

Not particularly. Haven't done anything this week out of the ordinary. Sedentary job plus cycle commuting for 25 miles a day. It doesn't feel like a muscle tear, it's how I imagine a bruise inside a bone would feel.

Could be a bone bruise then, sure you've not banged it, or hit a particularly vicious pothole at speed?

My biceps tendonitis isn't a sharp pain in a specific area, it's more a bad ache and a heavy feeling. Does affect the movement in my shoulder however

Nothing that was hard enough for me to notice. I think it's going to be a case of wait and see and then off to the doc.

Well, if they said it wasn't serious, then it wasn't a DVT!

I found out after my second embolism that the scar tissue left in a vein where a clot is absorbed into the lining of the vein can cause clots to form there in the future, which is probably what happened to me.

I was thinking that if your first problem HAD been a DVT, you would need to be extra vigilant now!

Anyway ... I hope that the problem isn't anything serious and that it clears up soon.
