Argos bikes on ebay

There seem to be a disproportionately large number of 'Argos' bikes (Challenge, Apollo, etc) on ebay. Is there something I don't know?

Probably folk who thought they'd get a nice cheap bike for getting fit in the summer, found the bikes heavy and cumbersome and never got it out again.

Now clearing the shed / garage for their Christmas presents.

A lot of cheap bikes tend to be owned by their original owner for less than one season - usually summer.

CHRIS, Do you mean new or used? The company my wife works for is a large supplier to the education market and even they resort to ebay to shift awkward/old stock that just won't sell by any other means. Maybe Argos or Halfords are trying to lighten there load a little ready for new stock?

Presumably the proportion of stolen bikes will be higher in those brands due to the number sold and the fact that those bikes are likely to be locked up with cheaper locks making them easier to steal.

Moodyman got it spot on ,, Got one for summer and never used it after the first painful bum numbing poor gear changing heavy and slow up hills ride.

I did exactly the same but my Apollo mtb got a a reprieve after moving on to a Scott road bike, as a winter months work horse, which is great for abusing it in the mud and rain of the canal paths from here in Littleborough to Hebden and back with no guilt of how bad it looks covered in mud.

More likely than not, the large number of Argos bikes on Ebay now is because they had a half price bike sale a week or so ago. Bargain hunters have obviously foamed at the mouth, bounced up and down on their profit-making chair, and bought them, thinking they can sell a bike for about 75% catalogue price now the prices have gone back up.

We have a large Argos clearance warehouse here and they currently have a quantity of these bikes, apparently they put them through the warehouse then onto fleabay! The warehouse is well worth a look, bargains to be had.

One mans rubbish is another mans gold.

+1 lets not get all elitist. Cheap bikes get people back into the saddle and some of them stick with it and end up on forums like this. I know because I was one of those people

There are many more who buy a BSO only to ditch it and cycling as it was such a horrendous experience.
