did my usual 5 mile lunchtime run on wed and all was well afterwards.

woke up in night, lying on back and moved left leg to feel something "click" behind the left knee cap rear the top. a tiny bit of pain but nothing to write about.

cycled in on thurs, slight pain but again nothing of note.

cycled back in evening, think all was well.

woke up last night and left knee is in agony!!
couldn't bend or straighten leg.

this morning got up, walked around, and got the same "click" again once or twice; knee is strapped up with deep heat stuff and it is better but still painful and walking is difficult (drove in to work).

so whaddya reckon? trip to the doctor in order or leave it a coupla of days to see how it gets on??

I wouldn't recommend a Doctor unless they are prepared to refer you for scan or specialist. They will be likely to say rest it for a week knowing that most things eventually heal themselves and if they get worse you'll come back again.
A physio is not necessarily a good idea because they might be tempted to manipulate it and make things 10x times worse.

I would recommend you rest it for 3-4 days no cycling minimum walking.
Volterol will reduce the inflamation but unless it becomes very painful you need to give your natural healing process a chance .

got appointment this evening; it is the clicking aspect of something popping out of place that is my main concern - I reckon too that a bit of rest (unfortunate timing as the weekend is looming) would fix it, but the click!!!?!?!??!?!?

good luck but i doubt you'll get any answers. I have had a clicking ankle for the past year . Every time I go up stairs to bed at night when all is quiet i can hear the damn thing click . Doesn't hurt or cause any problems yet thank god.

Rest it, take some anti-inflamatories and see how it goes. If it comes back then you may have to bite the bullet and see a physio. Unless you've got private health insurance from work or something, it will probably end up costing you about £200. It's probably the running more than the cycling that does it, IME.
