with the TiN coated chains?

Fitted a KMS chain today but had to remove a few links.

Notice that the inside part of the outer link link around the pin hole - where it would rub against the innner link - is not coated i.e. is sliver not funky gold and that the pin is not coated either?

In other words, the lovely gold coating is on parts that don't actully rub against each other hence is not helping longeivity but is in fact unnecessary extra weight. GGrrrrrrr.....

Still looks nice though.

I was going to get a gold chain once, but a mate told me not to bother because it wont stay gold for long.
I want a pink one for my mess about fixed. But, if i do that, then it will be double over what the bike is worth now!!!!!

Are we being conned.

I could fly to New York with an old bike in a travel box.
Junk the old bike and buy a Spesh Tarmac Pro.
Fly it back and still spend less money than buying the bike in the UK.

an example where crime does pay - provided you don't get caught. A nice idea but unless you play the import duty and the VAT on entry to the UK, illegal.

I confess I tried it once with a chi-chi electric bass; thought better of it on arrival in UK, 'fessed up, and the customs lady sent me on my way with a smile and a wink and a 'don't do it again'
