Are these correct/compatible?

My rear derailleur decided to get a bit too cosy with my rear wheel resulting in quite a mess and a long walk home... I need to replace the derailleur, freewheel and chain but can only find the freewheel (Shimano MF TZ06) for sale. Can anyone please let me know if this derailleur is compatible, (also is this the correct chain and the correct lockring remover)?

The old, now broken derailleur was a cheapo shimano sis (RD TY18) and the shifter is an SRAM indexed one.

Appologies for appearing a bit clueless, the last time I fixed a bike I was a teenager.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue.

Well not quite this issue, though my dérailleur did get overly friendly with several parts of my bike.

Hi there and welcome :0)

If you've got a six gears on the back wheel, then any Shimano six-speed derailier will work. You'll need to get the length of the chain right, I can't remember how you work that out but I'm sure someone will tell you.

That tool looks like a cassette tool, which I think is different and not what you need. But I don't know kind of tool you'll need. The best idea would be to take the wheel to a shop and get them to unlock it for you. You don't need a tool to fit a new one, it just screws on.

Thanks Mr Pig, I decided it would be a good idea to email SJS and ask about the tool and was very impressed to receive a reply from their sales email addy within 30 mins on a Saturday night at 10pm! You are correct that although the name suggests otherwise it is indeed the wrong tool, their sales dept. have set me straight about which is the right one now so with that and your advice about the derailleur I can get the parts ordered and get it fixed up  I'm sure there is something on Sheldon Brown or youtube about getting the chain right.

Twiggy, I feel your pain and I'm sure there must be plenty of others out there also ;) I hope your walk wasn't too long..
