Are Race Face BB a bit soft?

I fitted a new Race Face Deus XC chaniset to to my hardtail last year, the BB lasted for only a couple of months and it was completely gone, bearings really rough, I then fitted a Shimano one and it has been fine for over 6 months. I bought a new Orange 5 earlier this year(July), it came with a Race Face Evolve XC chainset, and I have just replaced the BB with a Hope one, the non drive side bearing that I removed was very rough. Is it a known problem with Race Face BB, I ride my mountain bikes in all weather on man made and natural trails, is it just that Race Face bearings are not designed for Scottish weather. The annoying thing is that I really like the Race Face chainsets.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

are the bearing sealed? i'd be surprised if the bearings were "soft", more liklely grit and water are getting past the seals and damaging them.

It could well be the seals that are no good, I'm just surprised how fast they wear.

They shouldn't wear fast at all..... My Shimano BB's have been on for years - still silky smooth..... the commuter's was a mid range BB fitted 12 month's ago - still fine, and it's ridden all weathers....

It's probably some kind of urban myth but I've always steered clear of race face BBs, as 'people have always said they've been a bit crap' and generally they've had a bad press. I think they've got a bad reputation.

Is there something about them on mtbr.com?

A bit crap is what I'm thinking right now, I'll have a look on a few other sites.
