Are crisps really that bad?

Reading any training-related nutrition articles, the poor old potato crisp always gets a bashing. I don't know why.

I have one bag per day of Marmite crisps. They are quite low in fat, salt etc (as are many brands of crisps nowadays - just need to check the label) so I don't see the harm.

Is this 'no crisps at all costs' just a myth that now needs to be exploded?

It's the same with anything really. If you eat something in moderation and you exercise then it's not going to do you any harm.
I also have a bag of crisps a day with my lunch. Reason being 1: I don't have a lot of salt in my diet so replaces what I have lost on my commute. 2: I bloody well like them.

Lol.
They all used to be cooked in saturated fat. Probably not the worst thing you can eat these days. Although I've read that they're worse for teeth than chocolate, as it gets and sticks between them.

correct. the potato starch encourages the bacteria that generate the stuff that rots teeth far better than sugar does.

To be fair, there's lots of starchy foods that get stuck between the teeth ....

If you bonk or want fast recovery try a can of coke and a bag of salt and vinegar crisps. It helps with hangovers too. Vinegar is anti-inflamatory. They have added vitamin C. I get short of salt sometimes and eat salty peanuts or s&v crisps. All things in moderation.

I don't care - I've given up smoking, cut down on drinking, increased my levels of exercise, reduced my sugar consumption, increased my fruit and veg consumption, stopped biting my fingernails, started being polite to old ladies and always remember to take the tissues out of my pockets before putting my trousers in the wash.

Crisps are one of the few pleasures I have left in life. I love Brannigan's Ham and Mustard.

Scientific knowledge is quite limited so it is a fair bet than lard cooked ones will turn out to be better for one's health. I remember when sunflower oil was fashionably healthy whilst the once despised rapeseed oil is now considered a better health bet.
