I haven't tried the Leather tape, but I usually buy normal Cinelli bar tape and it's very good stuff. I can imagine at that price, the Leather tape is the mutt's nuts. Would be comfy, long lasting and easy to clean.
Looks really good too.

Quite pricey and will eventually wear out. The feeling is superb though.

Brooks is so damn expensive compared to it's quality nowadays. Miss the good old quality Brooks.

A mate of mine has a couple of saddles that are from the 60's and 50's. Both still in good condition. I have a number of saddles that I have purchased new in the last 6 years. To be honest, my friend and I can't find that difference in quality that some people seem to miss. My guess is that it has become a bit of a myth really.

On the price side of things I understand that when Brooks was bought out by Cinelli they put the prices up for the American market and it was a marketing strategy more than anything. In other words they were saying if it's expensive it must be good.

I noticed the price change in the last few years. I remember buying my B17 Special for £46 and now they are about £80. Before that I bought a B17 standard for £27.... not sure how much they are now. I have bought more recently at the new prices a Brooks Flyer which is basically a B17 with springs. I don't see any difference in the quality with my other B17s.

Never bought Brooks bar tape so I cannot comment on that.

Agree with Manonabike here, what is the basis of your opinion - I too have not owned any tape so am interested in this statement?

I've used Brooks bar tape in two of my bicycles. The older one 77' Bianchi has Brooks bar tape from 90's which shows absolutely no sign of wear after ~1000 miles in variable conditions. The newer "carbon fetish" had modern Brooks tape which showed moderate wear after a couple of rides. Now I'm using Fizik bar tape on my bike and have no problems. I think the biggest problem with newer Brooks bar tape was the dye.

I think the biggest problem with new brooks bar tape is that it's joined with glue. You need to pull hard on leather tape to make it not loose. If you do this too hard with brooks it breaks in 2...

I should get the tape either today or tomorrow. I report on how much of a waste of money it was.

On a little side note, if it last 4-5 years it would of paid for its self as I replace bar tape (non leather) around once a year...
