Took the bike on the car with us up to Lincolnshire visiting family.

I managed to fit a ride in yesterday and stopped next to this frozen village pond for a breather.

I cant remember which village it was but its somewhere between Keelby and Barrow,I meandered about just following my nose did a total of 27 miles.Bit of a novelty not needing the granny ring at all

Didnt want my nice new roadbike covered in road grime from travelling up on the towbar mounted bike carrier so took the commuter. The mudguards are nice this time of year as well.

PS The tube sticking out of the pannier is a bit of pipe lagging I found on the side of the road and picked up to use as padding on the bike rack.

Nice and flat ain't it! My in-laws farm near Market Rasen but don't recognise this tho.
I have pipe lagging tie wrapped all over my bike carrier frame too!

I can tell you with certainty (as I live four miles from it) that it is Wootton. I wish I knew you were about, I'd have put the kettle on.

Tell you what mate I wish I knew you were local as I really could have done with a cuppa at that point:smile:.That North easterly wind had a bite in it.

I usually visit Keelby 2 or 3 times a year ,maybe next time we can do a ride together? I just followed my nose to Barrow then used the map to get back,it was twice as far meandering on the way out

Would like to ride over the Humber bridge at some stage,I am guessing that cycling is allowed on it?

I would be delighted to ride out with you on your visits to Keelby. As a previous poster has stated, you can indeed ride over the Humber Bridge, and very pleasant it is too in the right weather. The only thing is, is that when you get to the north side, there is no pleasant cycling for a good few miles. Mind you, the cafe on the north bank is quite pleasant.

Give me the heads up next time you are here and I'll show you the sights.

What?! Get yourself on the transpennine trail and head west or through Hessle, Swanland and onwards.

Sorry Helen. No offence, but at the north end of the bridge, the roundabout has the Beverley main road straight on, the A63 to the left and Boothferry Road, a dual carriageway to the right. I accept that once past these awful roads, there are a thousand very pleasant byways, but I was only referring to the immediate environs.

I am a fan of the East Yorkshire wolds, but by the time I have cycled from Chez Attrick, I've no real interest in fighting my way through looneys in tin boxes. I generally transport my bike in a van to the wolds and ride from a pleasant village with an even more pleasant cafe.

No offence taken. If you're cycling over the bridge you wouldn't come out on the roundabout. The cycle path should drop you in the bridge car park/'Country Park' from where you can get straight onto one of the Sustrans routes.

Yes, I have used that route, but it is still a fair few miles before you reach what is to me real cycling country. It is worth thr run though, I accept.

I regularly cycle a loop from Etton via Market Weighton and Nunburnholme bank which is sheer joy, but I do transport my bike in the van to Etton first.

I agree. It's best to head slightly further north, but I haven't tried Nunburnholme since we were sent up it on the Grimpeur des Wolds. It was a toughie!

No probs SS, I'm in Barrow. We've probably passed each other along College Road or somesuch. I generally ride a Dave Yates maroon tourer or a Cannondale Synapse in blue.

Grey Giant escape with rack, saving up for a road bike, I will look up once in a while and see if I can spot you.
