Hi guys, currently looking at getting into road cycling with a friend of mine. We have both decided which bikes we want (1 x Specialized allez elite & 1 x Specialized Allez 16) and was after a bit of advice on where to get the best deal. Been quoted so far:

2012 Allez Elite @£760
2012 Allez 16 @488

Will we beat these prices? Any advice much appreciated.

(cycle to work scheme not an option!)

You will be very lucky to get discounts on brand new 2012 bikes.

However go into a bike shop with a wedge load of cash and ask.

You don't ask you don't get as the saying goes.
If you can't wrangle a discount for the bike then ask for a %age in free accessories (lights, lock, etc)

Looked at an Allez Elite myself and it is part of the current Red Ticket offer which equates to £100 off RRP of £900. £760 is a good price.

From a conversation with my LBS, Specialized are very strict about their dealers offering big discounts on current models...if they wish to continue being Specialized dealers. Prices look good but as above, you can only ask

Do a nationwide gumtree search, i'm also currently saving up for an allez as my first road bike. There's plenty on there for around the £300 mark with elites going for a little more every week or two. In fact there's an elite on there listed yesterday for £350 - if only I wasn't so broke

Just be sure it's a genuine sale, plenty of nicked bikes on Gumtree
Cheers vickster, meant to mention that. Also don't go to buy the bike by yourself take a friend/be sensible where you go with a large amount of cash on you to buy a bike. Also if you're pressured into buying straight away without a chance to look over it properly I'd walk away.

The website www.bikeshd.co.uk is also useful. I believe it was first created to help people find their stolen bikes on ebay and gumtree - but a lot of links now look like genuine sales. It's fairly easy to spot the difference between a stolen posting and a genuine one.
