Anybody know why I can make calls but can't send texts?

I have an Alba Feature Phone that runs on the Asda Network (EE). I have no problems making calls or accessing the internet but for some reason I have only ever been able to send one text.

I've gone to two spots that have excellent EE coverage but I can't send texts from them either.

I've now noticed that a semi-colon is automatically placed at the end of the number. Could this be something to do with it? Perhaps it's the hot weather?

No idea off hand.

Can you put your SIM into another phone, that can definitely send texts and see if that works Or put another SIM in your phone. That will help narrow down the problem.

The only other phone that I've got access to at the moment is 3G but I'll try that when I get the chance.

Has the phone had a different SIM in it as some point? In the settings somewhere there used to be somewhere where the SIM's number is stored. If that number does not match the SIM's number it can break SMS.

It might also be that the EE number in settings is wrong (it might be called "message centre" or something like that). You'd need to ask EE what the number is to be sure but Google suggests "447958879879". Again, root round the settings

Thanks for that - SMS Centre Number on my phone was +447958879, which wasn't even the correct number of digits. I did some Googling and found this:

It looks like my phone actually uses the T-Mobile SMS number and I'd somehow managed to delete the last 3 digits. I added them back and I can now send texts again.
