Any reason I shouldn't buy this cassette?

Why not ? Could always get a blingy nickel plated one (silver). The £300 ones are for DA/Record/Red etc, and feature lots of titanium...not really much point on an every day bike.

Sorry, I have another question

The cassette is listed as having different size options (11-28, 11-32 etc)
I assume that that is the number of teeth on the smallest ring and the largest.
My original cassette is 12-26. I ordered the 11-28 as a 12-26 was not available.
Does this give me a higher, high gear and a lower, low gear?
Also, will I need to cut the new chain to a slightly longer length than the old one to allow for the extra teeth and if so, is there a formula for calculating how many extra links I'd need?

Thanks HlaB, should I send it back when it comes and get the identical spacing do you think?
I guess it down to do you feel you need that extra lower gear or will having a larger spacing between gears upset your rhythm (be to big a jump). If you decide the former keep it or if you decide the latter look for an identical one.

Hmmmm, well I don't have much rythm to be honest, and there's always room for a lower gear

I'll try it out and see how it goes. If I really can't get on with it I'll replace it with the correct one.

Thanks for the help

Nah, you should be OK with it - just check the chain/mech before riding.

My older Shimano road mech's have a 26T limit, the newer one will cope with it.

You'll just have a bigger jump between gears.

We used to adjust chain length so that when you are in the largest gear (small sprocket, big chainwheel) the rear mech cage sat vertical at 90 deg. Not sure how if thats still applicable...

Thanks Dave, yes I bought a new chain at the same time

Unfortunately, they're both still sitting in the shed as I can't find my cassette removing tool anywhere

Everytime I honk up a hill I'm convinced the buggers gonna snap. Must have a really good look for that remover tonight........

Thanks again for the help all ;)

Fitted them both last night and all seems well. There isn't a lot of clearance on the mech, in fact I think if it was a tooth bigger it probably wouldn't fit.

I worked out how much longer the chain needed to be, the new cassette is slightly bigger so I just cut the chain slightly longer

The only frustrating thing was that I don't think the old cassette was worn. The new one has the same sharks tooth profile, so it's obviously cut like that, and wasn't as worn as I thought.
Still, the changing is even smoother than usual and the ratios seem fine. In fact, I put in a PB on my commute this morning, 1Hr 5m from a prevous PB of 1Hr 7m
